Goal: Remind residents on the importance of conserving water

More than 44% of California is in “exceptional” drought—the worst level of drought. It is now important more than ever to be cognizant of our water usage and use this resource sparingly. The goal of the ‘Conserve water, Conserve Life’ installation is to remind residents of the community about the dire situation of the drought going on in the state of California and how we must all do our part to conserve water.

The Process

I started by sketching out possible locations for an installation. I decided an installation along the lobby of the student apartment building that acts as a focal point. This is the point in the apartment where people wait for their friends or cabs. Having an installation here would make the otherwise old design of the building more interesting.

Thesis

An artwork highlighting the current drought in California.

Our apartment complex does not charge for water and as students we tend to often be unaware of its scarcity. I want to create an installation that reminds us of the drought in California and how to use water sparingly. The artwork will be located in an area that has a huge blank wall. This area in in the center of the building and is the area that all visitors and residents pass through everyday.
